    Description
    The 1997 edition of Passing published by the Penguin Group contains an introduction and notes by Thadious M. Davis – a biographer of Nella Larsen. Highlighted lines of text are prevalent throughout the book, most likely completed by a previous owner. The cover of the book uses a painting by Archibald Motley called The Octoroon Girl (1925). This excerpt includes the front and back covers, short biographies of Nella Larsen and Thadious M. Davis, title page, copyright page, contents, the first page of the introduction, suggestions for further reading, a note on the text, half-title page, dedication, epigraph, select pages from the text showing highlighted areas (including the final paragraph of the novel), the first page of explanatory notes, and a publisher’s advertisement.
