dc.descriptionBorn in 1937, Frances Juanita Carter grew up in Marietta and attended Lemon Street Elementary School and Lemon Street High School. After graduation, she attended Savannah State University and taught one year in Monticello, Georgia, before returning to Marietta to teach at Lemon Street High School. Carter continued her teaching career after moving to Maryland in 1963 and earned a master’s degree and PhD. Today, she lives in Glen Arden, Maryland.
