Born in 1939, James Dodd, Jr. grew up the second of fifteen siblings in the Elizabeth community off Tower Road in Cobb County. He attended Lemon Street Elementary School and graduated from Lemon Street High School in 1957. After working with his father in the construction business, Dodd served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1983. He spent seven years in the Air Force’s Presidential Unit, which managed flights for Air Force One. Returning to Marietta, Dodd served on the school board from 1986 to 1993. He represented Ward 5 on the Marietta City Council from 1993 to 2001.
