    Description
    This printed leaf is an excerpt from "The Lyfe of Saynt George" within "The Golden Legend." This text was originally written in Latin by Jacobus de Voragine in the thirteenth century. It was later printed by William Caxton in the fifteenth century. William Caxton is generally known as the first English printer. "The Golden Legend" is a collection of hagiographies, or biographies of saints. This excerpt was printed in blackletter font on rag linen paper and includes a woodcut illustration.
