dc.descriptionDavid (Greer) Neubecker was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1968. He attended Kennesaw State College (KSC) and graduated from Georgia State University in 1995 with a degree in early childhood education. Neubecker was a gay rights activist in Atlanta and Cobb County, Georgia in the 1980s and 1990s. He continued his activism, particularly in advocating for marriage equality, after moving to Chicago in 1998. He was the founder of Gays and Lesbians United for Equality (GLUE), KSC's first gay and lesbian student organization, and was also active in Cobb Citizens, Friends Atlanta, Metropolitan Area Gay and Lesbian Organizations (MAGLO), Delta Lambda Phi, and Pride of Peachtree in Atlanta. In this interview, Neubecker discusses life with his husband Lee, the adoption of their two children, his family’s role in marriage equality advocacy in Illinois, his experience with the AIDS epidemic and his thoughts on current LGBTQ activism.
