Born to Nellie Kellogg Houston Griffin and Clarence Eugene Hill in 1958, Lawrence Timothy “Tim” Houston attended Acworth’s segregated Roberts School, Acworth Elementary School, Awtrey Junior High School, North Cobb High School, and North Metro Technical College (now Chattahoochee Technical College). He worked at Cobb EMC for 25 years and became an ordained minister, pastoring Joshua Gospel Tabernacle. As a community advocate, Houston chaired the committee tasked with renovating Roberts School in 2000 and helped start Acworth Expanding Horizons, which facilitates mentoring, after-school programs, and educational field trips for young people. He served on the Downtown Development Authority when Acworth was first accredited as a National Main Street and on the board of directors of the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia and Electric Cities of Georgia. Since 2004, Houston has served on Acworth’s Board of Aldermen. Married to Janice Solomon Houston, he has three children and six grandchildren.
