Description
Born in Georgia in 1934, Theresai Manley grew up in a working-class family, her father a produce salesman, her mother a seamstress. Despite financial hardship, Manley graduated from Mercer University and became one of eight women in a class of 100 admitted to Medical College of Georgia in 1957. She ultimately decided to marry instead of completing her medical degree, but she continued to work outside the home while raising three children. She recorded her oral history interview at Kennesaw State University in June 2019.
