Stella Merritt Collection, 1970
Browse by
In May 1970, a photograph of Kennesaw Junior College sophomore Stella Merritt sitting on the lawn on campus was picked up by the Associated Press and published in various newspapers. Photograph captions such as "Peace Still Reigns on Georgia College Campus" highlight the riots and violence occurring on many campuses in the USA regarding the Vietnam war. The photograph was also published in the "Pacific Stars and Stripes" resulting in a number of letters from servicemen serving in Vietnam to Stella. This collection contains newspapers, clippings, photographs, and correspondence. For more information on the collection, please see the Stella Merritt collection finding aid.
