dc.descriptionMichael W. Thomas is a third-generation resident of Cobb County, Georgia. His father, Marion Thomas, spent a career in the Air Force, was a supply management officer at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, and in 1971 was the first African American to serve on the Board of Commissioners of the Marietta Housing Authority. The Marion Thomas Collection is housed in the KSU Archives. As a second-grader in 1966 Michael was one of the first African American students to integrate the previously all-white Hickory Hills Elementary School in Marietta. He was class president when he graduated in 1977 from Marietta High School. After attending Kennesaw College briefly, Michael Thomas made a career in data processing, sales, and customer relationship management, serving as national president of the CRM Association and working for a variety of national companies, most recently Microsoft Corporation. His community service includes serving as a board member and teaching classes for the Diverse Cobb series of the Marietta Museum of History.en_US
