dc.descriptionDr. Herschelle Sullivan Challenor was a Spelman College student during the Atlanta Student Movement (ASM) of the 1960-61. She, along with Morehouse student Lonnie King, are arguably two of the most influential founding members of the Atlanta Student Movement. As co-chair of the Committee on Appeal for Human Rights, Herschelle led students in staging sit-ins at Rich’s department store in downtown Atlanta and at lunch counters throughout the City. After graduation, she continued her studies and earned a PhD from Columbia University. Dr. Sullivan Challenor has held a number of leadership roles in non-profit work, including program officer for the Diversity Education and Research Ford Foundation; director of the United Nations Educational Science and Cultural Organization Washington Liaison Office; and dean of Clark Atlanta University’s School of Public and International Affairs.
