dc.descriptionThe following photos show the area of downtown Marietta during the late 1940s and the early 1950s. The first photo shows a parade on the east side of Marietta Square. The parade is taking place in 1949 on Clay Day. Clay Day celebrates the victory of General Lucius D. Clay, a WWII hero largely responsible for the Berlin Airlift. General Clay was born and raised in Marietta. The second photo shows the Cobb County courthouse in 1950.en_US
