dc.descriptionAnn D. Smith is a professor emerita of curriculum and instruction. A product of segregated schools in Mississippi, she earned her PhD in curriculum and instruction from Southern Illinois University in 1978. After teaching at colleges in Mississippi, Tennessee, and New Mexico, she joined the Kennesaw State faculty in 1988 at a time when African Americans made up only 3.2 percent of the student body. During her two decades at KSU she held a number of administrative positions in the Bagwell College of Education, including director of graduate studies, department chair, assistant dean, and associate dean. In the 2000- 2001 school year she served as interim dean of the Bagwell College. After retiring from KSU, she spent another four years on the faculty at Reinhardt University before retiring for a final time in 2012.en_US
