Dr. Julie R. Newell earned a Ph.D. in the History of Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1993 and joined the faculty of Southern Polytechnic State University. She received the Outstanding Faculty Award in 1994 and 1998 and Teacher of the Year in 1998. Dr. Newell served as the coordinator of Southern Poly's Science, Technology, and Society Program from 1998 until the university's consolidation with Kennesaw State in 2014. She was also Chair of the Department of Social and International Studies from 2006 to 2014. During consolidation, Dr. Newell was the Interim Dean of SPSU's School of Arts and Sciences.
