Abstract
Oral history interview with Dr. Simin Nasseri, the 2019 KSU Distinguished Professor Award winner.
Description
Simin Nasseri is the 2019 recipient of KSU's Distinguished Professor Award for her excellence in integrating teaching, scholarship, and service. She earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering with highest honors in 1987 from Iran University of Science and Technology. After working a few years for a private Iranian company, she returned to IUST to earn an MS in Mechanical Engineering in 1992. Following several more years of work as a design engineer, she moved with her family to Australia, where she earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1997 from the University of Sydney. For the next several years she worked at the University of Sydney as a senior scientist and lecturer. In 2006 she joined the faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology at Southern Polytechnic State University. Since 2016 she has taught in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In addition to teaching fifteen different courses at SPSU, she has worked with seventeen different students on directed studies. Twice (in 2012 and 2019) she has been recognized by the national Society of Manufacturing Engineers with its Distinguished Faculty Advisor Award for her work with the SPSU/KSU student chapter. She is the author of a book, Solving Mechanical Engineering Problems with MATLAB (2015) and has published a number of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and technical reports.
