Douglas D. Middleton was a land surveyor, real estate agent, and attorney in Marietta, Georgia. He earned an Associate Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Southern Technical Institute (STI) in 1965, and a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from STI in 1975. He received his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in 1978 and was admitted to the Georgia State Bar in 1979. From 1976 through 1994, he served as a part time instructor at Southern Technical Institute, teaching a senior level elective course in Real Estate Law in Georgia, as it related to attorneys and land surveyors practicing in Georgia.

This collection consists of a sampling of the approximately 1,500 maps showing land surveys conducted in northwest Georgia between 1970 to 1992. The surveys were conducted primarily in Cobb County, but the collection also includes surveys from Bartow, Chattooga, Cherokee, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fannin, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gordon, Gwinnett, Monroe, Paulding, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Rabun, and Webster counties. Surveys were conducted primarily by Douglas Middleton for Douglas D. Middeton & Associates P.C., Land Surveyors & Engineers and Cadastral and Land Surveys LTD, P.C., both of Marietta, Georgia. Additional surveys in this collection were conducted by Eugene R. Martini.
