Oral history with Marietta City Council member and Cobb County NAACP president Hugh Lewis Grogan, Jr.
A native of Marietta, Hugh Lewis Grogan, Jr. in 1977 became the first African American elected to the Marietta City Council. A community activist for many years, Mr. Grogan was president of the Cobb County Branch of the NAACP, and he led a successful effort to sue the city, forcing Marietta to reapportion its wards.
